The Char Dham Yatra is more than just a trip; it is a profound spiritual journey through the “Land of the Gods” (Devbhoomi). This 10-day expedition takes you through high-mountain passes, ancient temples, and the headwaters of India’s holiest rivers.

Trip Overview:

Duration: 9 Nights / 10 Days
Route: Haridwar/Rishikesh – Yamunotri – Gangotri – Kedarnath – Badrinath – Haridwar
Meal Plan: Breakfast and Dinner included (MAPAI)
Focus: Spiritual immersion, Himalayan heritage, and pilgrimage.

Day 1: Arrival and Journey to Barkot

The pilgrimage begins with a pickup from Haridwar, Rishikesh, or Dehradun. You will drive toward Barkot, a beautiful hill station that serves as the gateway to Yamunotri.

  • Evening: Arrive at your hotel in Barkot. Rest and acclimatize to the rising altitude.

  • Overnight: Stay in Barkot.

Day 2: First Dham – Yamunotri

  • Early Morning: Drive to Janki Chatti and begin the 6km trek (on foot, or by pony/palki—extra charges) to Yamunotri.

  • The Experience: Visit the temple of Goddess Yamuna and take a dip in the Surya Kund (hot springs). Cook rice in the thermal waters as an offering.

  • Evening: Return to Barkot for dinner and rest.

Day 3: Barkot to Uttarkashi

After breakfast, drive to Uttarkashi, situated on the banks of the Bhagirathi River.

  • Afternoon: Check into the hotel. Visit the ancient Vishwanath Temple, famous for its massive iron trident (Trishul) and spiritual vibrations.

  • Overnight: Stay in Uttarkashi.

Day 4: Second Dham – Gangotri

  • Morning: Drive toward Gangotri via the beautiful Harsil Valley, known for its apple orchards and cedar forests.

  • The Experience: Take a holy dip in the Ganges (Bhagirathi) and offer prayers at the Gangotri Temple, the source of the river.

  • Evening: Return to Uttarkashi.

Day 5: Uttarkashi to Guptkashi/Sitapur

Today is a long but scenic drive as you transition toward the Mandakini valley, the base for Kedarnath.

  • Evening: Arrive at Guptkashi or Sitapur. Prepare your small overnight bag for the Kedarnath trek.

  • Overnight: Stay in Guptkashi/Sitapur.

Day 6: Third Dham – Kedarnath (The Climb)

  • Morning: Proceed to Sonprayag/Gaurikund. Begin the 16km trek to Kedarnath.

  • The Experience: The trail offers stunning views of the Himalayas. Upon reaching the top, witness the majestic Kedarnath Temple standing against the backdrop of snow-capped peaks.

  • Note: Accommodation here is basic/sharing basis due to the extreme altitude and remote location.

  • Overnight: Stay in Kedarnath.

Day 7: Kedarnath Darshan and Descent

  • Morning: Participate in the early morning Abhishek or Darshan at the temple.

  • Afternoon: Begin the descent back to Gaurikund and drive back to your hotel in Guptkashi/Sitapur.

  • Overnight: Stay in Guptkashi/Sitapur.

Day 8: Fourth Dham – Badrinath

Drive through the beautiful Joshimath region to reach Badrinath, the abode of Lord Vishnu.

  • Evening: Check into the hotel. Visit the Badrinath Temple for the evening Aarti. Before entering the temple, pilgrims often take a dip in the Tapt Kund (natural hot springs).

  • Overnight: Stay in Badrinath.

Day 9: Badrinath Exploration and Return to Rudraprayag

  • Morning: Visit Mana Village, the last Indian village before the Tibet border. See the Vyas Gufa, Ganesh Gufa, and the origin of the Saraswati River.

  • Afternoon: Begin the return journey toward Rudraprayag or Srinagar, following the confluence of the Alaknanda and Mandakini rivers.

  • Overnight: Stay in Rudraprayag/Srinagar.

Day 10: Departure via Rishikesh/Haridwar

  • Morning: Drive toward Haridwar. En route, stop at Devprayag, the holy confluence where the Alaknanda and Bhagirathi rivers meet to form the Ganges.

  • Evening: Drop-off at Haridwar, Rishikesh, or Dehradun, marking the completion of your Char Dham Yatra.

Important Notes for Travelers:

  • Accommodation at Kedarnath: Facilities at the top are very basic and often on a sharing basis. This is a high-altitude zone where luxury services are unavailable.

  • Physical Fitness: This yatra involves high-altitude trekking. Please consult a doctor if you have respiratory or heart conditions.

  • Vehicle & AC: As per mountain safety and engine capacity, AC will not be operated in the hill sections.

  • Peak Season: During May and June, expect heavy crowds. Hotel availability may result in similar-category substitutions.

  • Preparation: Carry heavy woolens, raincoats/ponchos, comfortable trekking shoes, and a basic medical kit with mountain sickness tablets.

  • Exclusions: Expenses for ponies, palkis, or helicopters for Kedarnath are not included and should be booked in advance.
